The Ford Figo is a
compact hatchback that was rolled out in the Indian market in March 2010. It
shares key elements of its kinetic design with its elder siblings like Ford
Mondeo and Ford Focus. The Figo was developed as an India bound car, taking
into consideration the needs and preferences of the Indian buyers. The
hatchback is available in both diesel and petrol versions, carrying 1.2L petrol
and 1.4L diesel engines, respectively.
The Figo is a smart
city car that comes laden with a range of unique new generation features
including lane change indicators, speed sensing volume control, rapid
deceleration warning, smart programmable remote key, six-speed intermittent
wiper, distance to empty, intelligent central locking and many more.
The Ford Figo has been
shelved in the price bracket of Rs 3,54,900 - Rs 5,33,400 (Delhi ex-showroom),
where it is fighting for space with the likes of Maruti Swift, Volkswagen Polo,
Chevrolet Beat, Nissan Micra and Fiat Punto.
The Figo has been
receiving an overwhelming response from the Indian buyers and more than 60,000
units of this car have already been sold in the country, since its launch.
Moreover, Ford Figo has won the prestigious ‘Indian Car of the Year 2010’
award. Besides selling in India, the car is also being exported to the markets
like South-Africa, from here.
Engine & Specifications Evaluation of the
Ford Figo
As mentioned above,
Figo model is available in both diesel and petrol versions in the Indian
market. The petrol version of Figo comes powered by a 1.2L, 1196cc,
four-cylinder, DOHC, engine that can deliver a peak power of 71 PS at 6,250 rpm
with peak torque of 102 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
On the other hand,
Figo diesel sports a 1.4L, four-cylinder SOHC, Duratorq diesel engine that is
capable of generating a peak power of 69 PS at 4,000 rpm with a peak torque of
160 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Both of the variants come mated with a five-speed manual
transmission system and front-wheel drive as standard features.
Performance of the Ford Figo
The Ford Figo model
has been appreciated for its power packed performance on Indian roads. Where
the petrol variant takes 15.5 seconds to break the speed barrier of 100 km/hr,
the diesel variant performs the task in 15.8 seconds. The car offers a great
performance on city and highways. Its suspension system has been optimized to
offer a comfortable ride to the passengers along with a superior riding and
handling experience for driver. While the diesel version caries a fuel economy
of 14.5 to 18.5 kmpl, the petrol version of Figo offers a fuel economy of 12.5
to 15.5 kmpl.
