Nokia Launches WhatsApp Service to Asha Mobile Phones

Nokia announced through a press release that the popular instant messaging application WhatsApp is now available in all Asha mobile phones. Nokia starts to cater WhatsApp in their Asha platform starting with the Asha 501 series. Nokia further added that they have rolled out a software update for all Asha 501 users which allows users to download instant messaging application (IM) on their mobile handsets and then one can enjoy the WhatsApp services. All other Asha series handsets which runs on the older platform still supports WhatsApp services. Nokia offers a new one touch social sharing and a more intuitive home screen with the new software update.

Nokia India Marketing Director Viral Oza said here in a statement commenting on the new software update “Asha 501 will be the first device on the Asha Platform to support WhatsApp. The new interface comes with a single swipe camera, single touch share to Facebook and ability to track Facebook comments and likes right from your Fastlane screen,"

Asha 501 which is launched in May is the first handset in the Asha series which uses the new Asha platform. Nokia confirms that they have preinstalled the new WhatsApp software update to all new Asha 501 handsets which is available on dealers after December 5, 2013 and the users who already owns the device can update the software through an over the air update

WhatsApp is the popular mobile instant messaging service which has now over 350 million monthly active users. By covering the service in the devices Nokia aims to hold more percentage of the market with their widely accepted Asha series product line up.
