The Royal Enfield
officials had announced its launch for the new Continental GT cafe racer at the
end of 2013, during its inaugural ceremony at Oragadam. The framework of this
new Continental GT535 is markedly similar to the 1965 GT250, but it newly
installed with 535cc engine and the whole design is developed by the UK's
Harris Engineering. The bike features low-set clip-on handlebars, a long fuel
tank and a narrow seat which can hold just the rider, though a two-up seat will
be provided as an optional accessory.
When compared to the single downtube
frame found on other Royal Enfield bikes, this lightweight, double cradle frame
will provide better stability and handling. In addition to this, a lighter
flywheel and a remapped ECU will put in sting to the 535cc motor. Royal Enfield
officials also declared that the new Continental GT535 is the lightest
production bike ever as it is 15kg lighter than the current flagship, the
Thunderbird 500 which makes it the fastest RE bike on the road. They also
estimate its power figure to be around the 33-35PS mark. The new Continental
GT535 will be first introduced in September while it will be launched in India
a month later.
