BMW has unveiled a new
mini version of its 2014 hatchback. BMW has unveiled this third generation of
the iconic ‘small car’ at the Cowley plant in Oxford, UK. While seeing the
dimensions the mini is not a small car but is bigger than any of its kind. It
is 98mm longer than the previous model, 44mm wider and 7mm taller. The
wheelbase is also expanded by 28mm. Boot space has increased from 160 litres to
211 litres. The 2014 mini is powered with UKL1 which is BMW’s new front wheel
drive platform technology. Wheel size at the front is wider by 42mm and 34mm at
the rear.
BMW integrates LED
headlamps for both dipped and main beam options. BMW also introduce some
additional features to the instrument cluster. It also has a 4 line TFT display
as standard or optional colour screen up to 8.8 inches which helps the driver
to know about vehicle functions, general information, navigation and MINI
connected services.
The new Mini has been
available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol option will carry
a 1.5 litre three cylinder engine with a turbo powered 136bhp version. The
diesel available option is a 1.5 litre common rail direct injection unit with
114bhp. Both the petrol and diesel option will comes with a manual and
automatic gearboxes with start and stop functions.
When looking into
other hot features of BMW Mini, includes a reversing camera and parking
assistant also the headlights uses a front mounted camera to view the traffic
and automatically dip from the main beams. This camera also helps to keep a
safe distance from the car ahead while under the cruise control. To facilitate
the riding comfort BMW offers adaptive options in Mini, Sport Drive for a
speedy and sharp drive while Comfort Drive for a relaxed and family ride.
It is expected that
BMW will launch the new Mini in Indian roads by 2014 end and the price range will
be slightly above the current level of BMW series.
